Meet the Class of 2011!
Kylee Botterman, Kari Pearce, and Trish Wilson
At the University of Michigan, freshmen
gymnasts are integral members of the team. Last season, Maureen, Kelsey, and Jackie
had an immediate impact on the competitive
lineup, while Sarah and Jordan were poised to earn all-around spots but suffered season-ending injuries early in January. Michigan Gymnastics has a long-standing tradition of
success among their freshmen gymnasts.
Over
the past 13 years, 10 Michigan gymnasts have earned
14 NCAA First Team All-America honors during their freshman
campaigns [Tatjana
Thuener-Rego (2006, Beam), Katie
Lieberman (2005, Vault), Lindsey
Bruck (2004, Beam), Jenny
Deiley (2003, All-Around), Becca
Clauson (2003, Beam), Elise
Ray (2001, All-Around, Bars, Beam, Floor), Janessa
Grieco (2000, Vault), Sarah Cain (1997, All-Around,
Bars), Nikki Peters (1996, Bars), Heather
Kabnick (1995, Vault)].
This year's freshmen class is primed to continue this
tradition. These three ladies have some big shoes to
fill, after the departure of 2007 graduating seniors, Carol McNamara and Clare Flannery. But they are confident, talented, and
determined to rise to the challenge.
This trio has already made a name for themselves when they placed in the top 2 in their sub-levels at the 2007 L10 Regionals and in the top 6 at the 2007 L10 Nationals. At L10 Nationals, Tricia placed 2nd AA, 1st UB & tied for 1st FX, 2nd BB and tied for 2nd on VT in the Senior D sub-level. Kari finished 2nd AA and tied for 1st VT in the Senior C sub-level. And Kylee finished tied for 6th AA, 2nd on FX, and 4th on VT in the Senior C sub-level.
In anticipation of the upcoming intrasquad (Friday December
7th), we wanted to give you, the fans, an opportunity
to get to know the members of the Wolverine Class of
2011. Over the next month, we'll highlight a different
Michigan freshman as part of this "Meet the Freshmen"
