Q & A - About Gymnastics and U-M

Why do you like doing gymnastics?   I like doing gymnastics because it is a lot of fun and challenging at the same time.
What is your favorite event or routine? Why?   Vault because I like exploding off the horse and it comes most easily to me.

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?   The academic excellence and great tradition, the great town of Ann Arbor, the girls on the team and the coaches.
What has been your most memorable gymnastics moment at Michigan?   The team winning Big Ten's my junior year (2007). We had a lot of injuries this year and we all pulled together as a team and came out with a huge win. It was very emotional for all of us and will definitely be the most memorable experience here at Michigan.

What has been your biggest challenge/obstacle in gym or college (or both)? How did your overcome this challenge?   Coming back from knee surgery and overcoming fears. I have taken it slowly and have worked through it. Getting all of my skills back and just everything that I haven't done in a while has been touch, but it has also been a great challenge that has made me a stronger person.
What has been your most embarrassing moment in the gym (ever)?   We were running sideways during our team warm-up one day, and my foot got caught in the floor and I tripped and landed flat on my side. It made the loudest noise and a bunch of people heard and saw it. I didnn't even really catch myself...I just fell straight to the mat. Haha!
What goes through your head immediately before a routine?   I try to go through a mental routine and just focus on doing my best.

What advice would you share with up-and-coming Michigan gymnasts?   Never give up on your dreams and when you are going through a rough patch, just keep working hard and try to get through it because it will only make you a stronger person. Believe in yourself and you can do anything. And most of all, Go Blue!!
What is your favorite part of the gym meets?   Performing in front of a crowd at Crisler Arena and cheering on my teammates.
Other than Michigan, where is your favorite place to compete and why?   I really enjoyed competing at Utah, because the arena is always filled with a ton of people and the fans are really nice. There is a lot of energy in the arena, which makes the competition a lot of fun.

What is the most interesting person that you've met at UM and why?     The most interesting person that I have met at U of M is University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman. I was able to meet her through a mentorship program. Four people were in my mentorship group and President Coleman was our mentor. We had a pancake dinner at her house one time, which was a lot of fun. She is a wonderful down-to-earth woman and she taught me a lot about Michigan.
What is the worst exam that you've taken?   An organic chemistry test.

What’s the best way to show your Michigan spirit?
Attend as many sporting events as you can, dress up at all the football games, and of course, wear blue or maize anytime you can.

You can meet wonderful people wherever you go. Also, coffee is amazing!

If you could only listen to one song from now on, what would it be?
